❄️ Ever Tried Fat Biking?
A simple intro + beginner-friendly spots.
Last week marked the earliest start to my winter riding in a decade of fat biking.
If you’re new to the idea, don’t worry—you haven’t been living under a rock. I still remember the first time I saw one of those oversized bikes on a snowy trail near home. They looked like mountain bikes someone had over-inflated: 4-inch tires, huge footprint, and a strangely fun presence in the middle of winter.

First fat bike ride of the winter.
For those of us in four-season climates—pretty much all Canadians—regular riding usually tapers off around now. Fat biking is what fills the gap. Think of it as winter mountain biking with big, floaty tires that glide over snow. The sensation reminds me of being a kid and riding freely for the very first time—simple, playful, wide-grinned fun.
And as an added bit of fun, some trail centres even groom their winter fat bike trails, giving you a smooth, rolling ribbon of snow to ride.

Groomed fat bike riding!
With the season kicking off early, I figured this was a perfect week to put the GTMTB Assistant to work. I asked it to surface four great places across North America where anyone—complete beginners included—can give fat biking a try, even if you don’t own a bike.
P.S. If you haven’t added the GTMTB Assistant custom GPT yet, scroll to the bottom and give it a spin. It’s free for subscribers.

🧭 Use the Assistant: Build Your Own Winter Adventure
After kicking off my earliest fat bike season yet, I put the GTMTB Assistant to the test on winter terrain. The new v1.3 update (GPT-5.1) is built for cold-weather planning — dialing in trail conditions, rentals, drive times, and beginner-friendly options across North America.
💡 What it does well in winter:
Suggests groomed fat bike trails and winter-ready parks
Helps you find local rental shops so you can try fat biking without owning a bike
Verifies hours, fees, and winter access from trusted sources
Adjusts plans automatically for snowy roads, shorter daylight, and pacing that keeps things fun
📍 Try this prompt:
“first-time fat biking + groomed trails + rental options near [your city or region]”
You’ll get a personalized winter plan with smooth groomed loops, rental suggestions, and relaxing post-ride ideas — because snowy adventures are a lot more fun when everything is sorted before you step outside.
