🏞️ El Capitan Energy, No Flight Required
Four North American cliffs with Yosemite vibes
Last weekend, we kicked off our camping season at a familiar spot—Bon Echo Provincial Park.
Across the lake, a towering cliff face dominates the view. Old-growth pines dot the shoreline. It feels ancient. Quiet. (Probably why the famous Group of Seven took up residence their for a period of time.)
I brought my rod and made it out to the narrows—a spot where lake, forest, and rock all press in close. I stood casting in the shallows, not really caring if I caught anything.
The warm water, the impressive rock wall, and a few climbers scaling it above me—
it was all the reward I needed.
That moment reminded me of Yosemite. Years ago, my wife and I stood at the base of El Capitan, just watching the climbers inch upward.
Same feeling. Same awe. Different place.
And that’s the fun of using the GTMTB Assistant—you discover places you didn’t expect.
So this week, I’ve pulled together a few destinations that deliver El Cap-style energy—
without needing a plane ticket.
Because most of us don’t live near Yosemite. But we still crave those big views.
This week’s list includes cliffside hikes and paddles from across the U.S. and Canada:
